Central Panama

DAY 1.  ARRIVAL TO PANAMA

Upon arrival to Tocumen International Airport, you will be greeted by a Panama
Great Adventures representative and transferred to your hotel in Panama City.

DAY 2. METROPOLITAN PARK

Located at  Soberania National Park, this area is one of the "hot spots" on the east bank of the Panama Canal Corridor; it is located at the southernmost part of the Soberania National Park, only a 30-minute drive from Panama City. It contains semideciduous forests and it also features the Summit Ponds. Boat-billed Herons, Capped and Agami Herons are rare to see, Mangrove Swallow, Lesser kiskadee, Lance-tailed Manakin, Rosy-thrush tanager, Dusky Antbird and White-bellied Antbird, Royal Flycatcher, Crane Hawk, Pheasant Cuckoo.

DAY 3. CERRO AZUL

Just one hour out site of Panama City in  Cerro Azul (2,500 ft.) and Cerro Jefe (3,300 ft.) we encounter cloud-forested hills with peaks of elfin forest.

Yellow-eared Toucanet, Black-and-white Hawk-Eagle, Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Spot-crowned Barbet, Black-eared Wood-Quail, and a nice mix of tanagers, including Silver-throated, Emerald, Speckled, Rufous-winged, Bay-headed, Black-and-yellow, Golden-hooded, and Hepatic would be our target list.

Hummingbirds are diverse in this mountains and  include the Rufous-crested Coquette, White-tipped Sicklebill, Bronze-tailed Plumeleteer, Green Thorntail, as well as Violet-capped, Violet-headed & Snowy-bellied Hummingbirds! We should also find the endemic Stripe- cheeked Woodpecker, along with Lineated Woodpecker, Black-striped & Spotted Woodcreepers, Red-capped & White-ruffed Manakins, Russet Antshrike, and White-vented & Tawny-capped Euphonia

DAY 4. PIPELINE ROAD

6:00 am    Pick up at your hotel in Panama City.

Early morning pick up and transfer to Soberania National Park. Pipeline Road is one of Panama’s birding hot spots. Expect to see Slaty-tailed / Black-throated and Violaceous Trogons; Scarlet-rumped Cacique; Blue-crowned / Red-capped and Golden-collared Manakins; Crimson-crested / Cinnamon / Lineated Woodpeckers; Semiplumbeous Hawk, Collared Forest-Falcon; Snail Kites, Jacanas and  Rufescent Tiger-Herons, among varios dozens of species you will be able to watch, on a guided full day birding trip. We will have  box lunches at noon. Afternoon  transfer to your hotel.

DAY 5. SOBERANIA NATIONAL PARK

Located at  Soberania National Park, this area is one of the "hot spots" on the east bank of the Panama Canal Corridor; it is located at the southernmost part of the Soberania National Park, only a 30-minute drive from Panama City.
